Central electric water heaters provide stored hot water from one controlled source for several bathrooms, kitchens or service points. The cylinder capacity and heating input should be selected from the expected daily demand, simultaneous use and the recovery time required by the property.
Because the heater uses electricity at the equipment location, the design must also consider the available electrical load, cable and protection requirements, control strategy and the space needed for the cylinder. Good tank and pipe insulation help reduce unnecessary heat loss while the water is stored and distributed.
Electric systems can also be integrated with a return-line circulation loop where the plumbing layout requires faster hot-water availability at distant outlets. Thermostats, safety controls and periodic inspection of the heating elements and cylinder condition are important parts of reliable operation.
